would any one out there want a lion head rabbit and/or a dwarf rabbit?

Monday, June 29th, 2009

we don’t know the age of the lion head, but when we got him his teeth were overgrown so every 3-6 weeks you have to grind down his teeth but we have a certain kind of pliers that we us to cut them.

the dwarf is around 10 weeks old.
they both are girls
if your are interested then please email me at petlover864@gmail.com

This isn’t a site to sell animals on. Try kijiji.com or craigslist.com or if you’re giving them away for free try freecycle.com.

I’d take them if I had the time and space for them but I’m already swamped in school work and taking care of the tons of animals I currently have is a bigger task then you’d think. ]: Good luck with finding them a new home.

how long do lionhead rabbits live????????(indoors)!?!?

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Being a small rabbit, lionheads have a lifespan of 7-10 years if properly cared for. Some small breeds can even live into their teens, so make sure you're prepared to care for a rabbit that long. =]

Looking for lion head rabbits?

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

I live in san antonio texas and ive been looking for a lion head rabbit for my daught and cant find one
do any one know of any one that would have one and NO I dont want one from a pet store. Would like to find a local breeder.

If you wouldnt mind adopting a rabbit, id look into it on the internet, or go to a pet store closest to you, and ask if they know where any rabbit breeders are close by. Some places in the U.S have different breeds of rabbits, so the breed you are looking for may not be local. I found the rabbit i wanted by using bunnybunch.com (a rabbit adopting agency) but im pretty sure its only in California. Id take a look at the website anyway, or search for San Antonio (then your area code) and then local rabbit breeders. Google would be the best search engine.

Hope this helps :-) *

what injections does my lion-head rabbit need and how old does he have to be to have them?

Friday, June 26th, 2009

In UK he needs 2 injections, myxi and another one (I cant remember the name of it!) but your vet can tell you! He should be at least 3 months old so dont let him outside until he has had these done! He will need to get them done 2 weeks apart from each other. They will probably be around £15 each. Good luck!

are lionhead rabbits gentle?

Friday, June 26th, 2009

think of getting a lionhead rabbit for 6 year olc granddaughter but not sure if they are gentle or not.

Yes! My little 2 year old baby is sooo mellow and cute. He’s not overly fluffy, but just right. He’s got gorgeous colouring, and the most lovely personality to match. He sits contently on your lap for hours on end, loves cuddles, strokes, and if you make kissy sounds he climbs up (only puts his paws on your shirt) and sniffs your face, it’s so cute! He was so simple to potty train (I did it overnight) and he’s allowed free roam around the downstairs of our house so long as there’s someone in one room. He will play chase with you, answers to his name, and all that. And he really is the sweetest bunny I know. But, this isn’t the case with every lionhead rabbit and they do need gentle training and cuddling from an early age from the right people for them to turn out with that brilliant soppy nature.

I really recommend you get one if you know you’re ready for a rabbit (lionheads can grow particularly close to one person and not like to be picked up by others but will sit fine on other peoples laps) and they are really very expensive to look after for a ’small animal’ and they are very time consuming. But if you think you’re ready then go for it.

And if you’re getting it for a 6 year old, who promises ’she’ll care for it, clean it out, etc etc’ then i don’t really think you should. Make sure it’s your pet, and just hers to cuddle and play with. They need alot of cleaning out, and can have smelly cages. And rabbits can kick and scratch very hard when threatened.

But yes, they are fab bunnys but make sure you have time for them and all that.

Here’s a picture. :]

Any information on dwarf lion head rabbit?

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Are they good for a family? (with kids)

Yes they are great. Here is some info from wikipedia:

Is one of the newest breed of domesticated rabbits. It has particularly long hair surrounding the face, reminiscent of the mane of a male lion, hence the name. Other characteristic traits of the lionhead include a rounded head and small size, usually between 2.5 and 4.0 pounds. It also tends to have slightly shorter ears than most breeds.

The lionhead rabbit originated in Belgium. It is reported to have been produced by breeders trying to breed a long coated dwarf rabbit by crossing a miniature Swiss Fox and a Belgian dwarf. The Lionhead seemed to have been more popular than the long coated dwarf, and so breeders carried on this trend in breeding them intentionally, and so came what we know today as the Lionhead rabbit.

There are many coat types and colours. Some lionheads have single manes which is not showable. Single mane is when a lion head only has a little bit of the long fluffy on its head. Double mane is the showable type that has long hair all along the body except around the back area and face. The double mane is showable.

Baby lionheads (kits) are distinct from all others. When they are born they do not have a lot of hair around the tummy, butt, and cheeks. That hair grows in later as they mature.

This rabbit has a energetic, but sweet personallity and is for the more experienced bunny owner.

The breed has been recognized by the British Rabbit Council, however as of yet it is not a fully recognized breed in the ARBA.
