Lionhead rabbits moulting?
Tuesday, May 26th, 2009Hi i am a new pet owner so i am wondering if someone can help me. I have 2 male lionhead rabbits they are 10 weeks old but i have found some of their fur in the rabbit hutch I was wondering is it just them moulting their winter coats because summer is nearly here??
First off, you will want to seperate those bucks when they get about 3 months of age. Bucks are very territorial, especially after they reach sexual maturity. (3-4 months)
The loss of fur could be from a moult or it could be from rough play. Because lionheads have so much fur, you will want to be sure to brush them during this time, provide unlimited amounts of timothy hay to get the fur moving through the digestive tract, and you can offer a tiny piece of pineapple to get the digestive enzymes moving about.
Should you notice your rabbit acting lethargic or different, you will want to take them to the vet. Because fur is ingested during their grooming periods, fur can become impacted.
I think all rabbits tend to do the same
