Lionhead Rabbits

I might be getting some babies on Monday. Do they make good pet rabbits?

Yup they are, like any other rabbit they are alot more responsibilty then other small animals. They need to be spayed/neuteured or else they can get aggresive, poop everywhere and their pee will stink. You should get them fixed at around 4-6 months. They need to get their nails trimmed every six weeks too. It’s better to get it done at the vets as you could hurt them.

They need a large room with carpet they can have a good run around, they love to run around like crazy or else a large, secure outdoor enclosure to tear around in. They need to be out of their cage for at least 2 hours a day. In their diet they need a cup of vegetables, need to have hay all the time, and have a handful of pellets every morning and night. Leonardo, my lionhead rabbit, gets to spend his 1st day outside in a Hutch that I revamped for him. I can only keep him outside in the daytime, as I have other wildlife that could try to attack him. And he is on my deck where I can see him at all times. Sadly, his 1st day didn’t go as I accepted.

Is it healthy for a lionhead bunny to eat alot. He just started doing that today but he's been eating non-stop. Ohhh and if anyone can give me any additional info on them would be nice also …Thanks!!!

lionheads,huh?hmmm…..

i may know something about them.like most rabbits(but i can say ALL rabbits),lionheads eat alot.they need something to chew on everyday.hay is the most important part of the meal.this keeps their teeth in balalnce for better chewing.

followed by hay,the second most important meal is the pellets which must be taken everyday but not everytime.hay is the only meal taken every time.every hour.every minute.

the third and last important nutrition,is the vegies and fruits given only at a limited basis per day.some vegetables and fruits are not helathy for rabbits.remember:rabbits have a very unique digestive system and so they can be very picky when it comes to meals on greens.iceberg lettuce,by the way,kills rabbits as well as cabbege.

I’m not sure what you are asking?
The room temp of your house should be fine, if its comfortable for you its probably ok.

Rabbits should really only be on grass and hay – pellets make them fat and they don’t eat much veg naturally – maybe a few leaves. They need a diet that’s 90% hay for the sake of their digestion and dental health – the most common health upsets in rabbits.

Since these bunnies are very young, probably a good idea to feed them small amounts of rabbit pellets until they’re bigger. Small amounts, like a spoonful a day each.
